Info for Researchers

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is one of the forefront centers of research in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and human genetics in Turkey and the region. Current research programs focus on the genetic identification of disease genes and the genetic basis of cancer, epilepsy, bleeding disorders, and of neurodegenerative disorders. Additional research endeavors target the understanding of translation mechanisms, signal transduction, neurodevelopment, plant pathogen resistance, and innate immunity.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is a well-funded, fully-equiped and well-connected research institution with currently 13 faculty, 1 adjunct faculty, and 48 graduate students and researchers. Major funding of our research is provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK), the Bogazici University Research Fund, the European Union, Marie Curie actions, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), and the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture. The Department hosts a weekly seminar series and is regularly visited by renowned researchers from Turkey and abroad (see our guestbook).

In addition, the Istanbul area is home to numerous universities and research hospitals, meaning that there is always an interesting seminar, meeting or event to attend to.
